1 Coblentz, Stanton A. After 12,000 Years
Los Angeles Fantasy Publishing 1950 First Edition Hard Cover
Very Good+ in a Fine dustjacket. Pebbled green boards. The spine is stamped in black. Small octavo. 295pps. There is a small pencil-erasure (of price) in the upper corner of the ffep. and an abrasion to the rfep as if due to the removal of a label. Otherwise clean, tight, square, and bright. No apparent reading wear and no inscriptions. The dustjacket, glossy in a new mylar sleeve, has a few mild touches of rubbing to the ink: no other flaws. This jacket was acquired from the estate of William Crawford, publisher of Fantasy Press, and had been stored flat for decades prior to it being recently married to this volume. The original price is intact. A very nice, collector's-quality copy.

"...Will there be any men on earth 12,000 years from now? If so, what will they be like? Will they be super-geniuses with atom-powered industry, magnificent cities, and happy people enjoying a freedom and abundance beyond the dreams of prophets?
In this satirical novel, Henry Merwin finds an entirely different answer when the miscarriage of a scientific experiment sends him one hundred and twenty centuries into the future. In the course of his strange and exciting adventures he sees a world that is further from our own than ours is from that of the Cave Man. But it is a world that is a logical outgrowth of ours -- and is brilliantly real and, perhaps, prophetic.
Twelve thousand years from now, mankind is divided into three nations and four species, and has developed a scientific civilization whose latest feat is regulation of the weather. -- with the result that wars are fought for climatic control.
Into the vortex of these wars, Merwin is drawn. The mechanized marriage laws tear him from the girl he loves, and the equally mechanized military regulations threaten him with death for the crime of individuality. His service in the Department of Insect Distribution, and his amazing exploits in the last days of a crumbling world, lead toward a climax that is as breath-taking as it is vividly imagined and graphically told..."

"...Eternal life -- the golden dream of man through the ages -- realized on the veiled world of Venus!
During the latter part of the 20th century earthmen conquer the hazards of interplanetary travel and and journey to Venus, the Planet of Youth. Man is no longer Earthbound; man is no longer haunted by the fear of death; man has found a world where life is more wonderful than any human ever imagined it could be.
But a ticket to Venus costs thousands of dollars, and few -- very few -- people have the necessary fee. Thus begins a reign of terror on earth as men seek any means of obtaining passage to the world of their dreams..."
