1 Michener, James A. Caravans
New York Random House First Edition
[1963]. Near Fine in a Very Good+ dustjacket. Bound in full black cloth. The spine is stamped in gilt and red; the front panel in gilt and blind. Octavo with red topstain. Map-endpapers of Afghanistan. 341pps. Stated First Printing. There is a slight sag to the textblock due to its weight and several pages had been dogearred. Otherwise clean, bright, and soundly bound. All tips are sharp. No previous ownership markings. The price-clipped dustjacket, glossy in a new mylar sleeve, has a few small abrasions at the folds and modest wear at the head of the spine. A very nice copy.

"...In the years immediately following World War II, a young American woman, married and living in Afghanistan against her parents' wishes, suddenly and mysteriously disappears. Michener's magnificent novel combines historical fact with a gripping adventure of romance, danger, and intrigue as it follows the story of the military man who is assigned the task of finding and returning the young woman to her distraught family. 'Caravans' captures the tension of the postwar period, the sweep of Afghanistan's remarkable history, the allure of the past, and the inescapable pull of the future..."

2 Michener, James A. The Bridge at Andau : The Heroic Story of the Revolt By the Hungarian People That Made Crystal Clear to the World the True Face of Communism
New York Random House First Edition SIGNED by the Author
[1957]. Near Fine in a Near Fine dustjacket. Bound in full tan buckram. The spine is stamped in black and red. Octavo. Red topstain. [xi] + 270pps. Stated First Printing. Pages 230 + 231 are a bit tanned (as if an acidic clipping had been laid in for a period of time). Otherwise clean, tight, square, and bright. All tips are sharp. No previous ownership markings. The dustjacket, glossy in a new mylar sleeve, would be Fine except for a 1/4" closed tear at the top of the front panel; the original price is intact. SIGNED by the author -- without further inscription -- on the half-title page.

"...There was a bridge at Andau, and if a Hungarian could reach that bridge, he was nearly free. By an accident of history, one of the most inconsequential bridges in Europe became one of the most important bridges in the world. Across it, during a few flaming weeks, fled more than twenty thousand people who had known communism and rejected it.
James A Michener was at that bridge, which is in Hungary near the Austrian border. He personally helped lead many Hungarians out of their suffering, gallant country. From what these victims of Russian bestiality told him, he has drawn a picture of Hungary under Russian domination, up through the final terror of the rape of Budapest and its aftermath.
This is the story of the revolution told in terms of the people who lived it -- the writers and philosophers who proposed it; the students who initiated it; the boys and girls who wrestled with tanks barehanded; and the workers, the propoganda darlings of communism, who resisted both communism and Russia to the death..."

3 Michener, James A. The Voice of Asia
New York Random House 1951 First Edition Cloth
In Very Good condition. Bound in full tan cloth. The spine is lushly stamped in gilt and blue. Blue topstain. Octavo. Color map-endpapers. [xi] + 338 pps. Stated First Printing. No dustjacket. There is mild bumping to the spine-ends, a previous owner's name and address are neatly penned in the upper corner of the ffep, and the blue topstain has bled down into the top margin of 5 or 6 pages (only). Otherwise clean, tight, and bright.

"...Today Asia is of utmost importance to Americans. What happens there may make or mar us as a nation. We need to know what makes Asia tick. I had the good luck to travel to many towns and villages in Asia and to talk with the people about what worried them. I met rickshaw boys and millionaires, peasant farmers and heads of state. They told me about the religious problems, the economic questions and the social revolutions that disturb them today. I talked of America and of Russia; and, like people everywhere, they told me some very funny stories about their politicians. In 'The Voice of Asia' I have tried to share with you what the people of Asia told me..." -- James A. Michener.
