1 Repp, Ed Earl The Radium Pool
Los Angeles Fantasy Publishing 1949 First Edition Cloth
Near Fine in an As New dustjacket. Bound in full orange cloth. The spine is stamped in blue. Red endpapers. Octavo. 188pps. There is a faint touch of spotting atop the textblock and a small and incidental pen-mark on the rfep., otherwise clean, tight, square, and bright. All tips are sharp. The text is immaculate; no apparent reading wear and no inscriptions. The dustjacket, glossy in a new mylar sleeve, is flawless: this jacket was acquired from the estate of William Crawford, publisher of Fantasy Press, and had been stored flat through the decades until recently, when married to this volume; the original price is intact. An excellent, collector's-quality copy. Jacket design by Jack Gaughan.

"...Deep beneath the many-hued, volcanic sands of the Manalava Plains is an eerie world. And in this pool, in a gem-encrusted cavern, is a pool of shimmering, iridescent matter, guarded by creatures from outer space. Into this unexplored region go two men following the shadowy trail of a vanished girl; searching down the corridors of time for a fragment of a departed age. Intent upon their quest they do not heed the silent voice that warns them of the great peril in the secret recesses of the cavern land. Lured irresistably toward danger, the Earthmen discover that the interlopers from a far planet plan to use their superior powers to protect their lootings.
Included in this volume is a scientific detective story, 'The Phantom of Terror,' and 'The Red Dimension,' considered by many readers to be the author's best science-fiction short story..."

"...Recounts the mystery of the arrival on Earth of a space ship from a distant planet, bringing strange creatures whose tremendous knowledge has made possible travel across the star-ocean. When the interplanetary ship, which has buried itself deep into the desert sands of Arizona, is recovered by the tireless work of engineers, Professor Brandon discovers inside the space vessel the Stellarites, encased in containers in a state of suspended animation. Here then is the secret of space travel...but can our scientists untangle the mystery of suspended animation? In attempting this, Doctor Farrington, the leading medical authority, places his own son in the death-like state but finds he cannot release either his son or the Stellarites from the mantle of sleep. A further complication is the discovery of parchment writings in the Stellar Missile telling the purpose of the visit..."
