1 McCourt, Frank Angela's Ashes : A Memoir
New York, NY, U.S.A. Scribner's 1996 0684874350 / 9780684874357 First Edition Hard Cover SIGNED by the Author
[1996]. Near Fine in a Near Fine dustjacket. Brown boards quarterbound in crimson cloth. The spine is stamped in gilt. Emerald-green endpapers. Octavo. 364pps. First edition, first printing. There is a mild bump to the heel of the spine and a previous owner's small stamp with signature is on the ffep. Otherwise clean, tight, square, and bright. All tips are sharp. The text is immaculate; no apparent reading wear. The dustjacket, glossy in a new mylar sleeve, has light touches of crinkling at the spine-ends and a small crease at the lower corner of the front flap; the original price (23.00) is intact. SIGNED by the author -- without further inscription -- on the title-page. A very nice, collector's-quality copy of this highly-regarded memoir: winner of both the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Award.

"'Angela's Ashes' is Frank McCourt's sad, funny, bittersweet memoir of growing up in New York in the 30s and in Ireland in the 40s. It is a story of extreme hardship and suffering, in Brooklyn tenements and Limerick slums -- too many children, too little money, his mother Angela barely coping as his father Malachy's drinking bouts constantly brought the family to the brink of disaster. It is a story of courage and survival against apparently overwhelming odds."
