1 Goodwin, Jason The Janissary Tree : A Novel
New York Farrar, Straus and Giroux 2006 0-374-17860-7 / 9780374178604 First Edition, First Printing Hard Cover
[2006]. Near Fine in a Fine dustjacket. Green boards with a black, gilt-stamped backstrip. Octavo. 302pps. There is mild bumping to the spine-ends, otherwise clean, tight, square, and bright. The textblock is immaculate; no apparent reading wear and no previous ownership markings. The dustjacket, glossy in a mylar sleeve, has a slight crinkle at the head of the spine; the original price is intact. An excellent, collector's-quality copy. The introduction of Investigator Yashim and winner of the 2007 Edgar Award for best novel.

"...Jason Goodwin has unleashed his talent on a series of mysteries set in nineteenth-century Istanbul and starring the unlikeliest and most engaging of detectives: Yashim the eunuch.
'The Janissary Tree' is the first in the series, and the year is 1836. Europe is modernizing, and the sultan of the Ottoman Empire feels he has no choice but to follow suit. But just as he's poised to announce sweeping political change, a wave of murders threatens the fragile balance of power in his court..."
