New York Dodd, Mead & Company First Edition Original Cloth Parrish, Maxfield
[1898]. In Very Good+ condition. Bound in full brown cloth. The spine is stamped in gilt; the decorative front panel in blue, green, white, black, and red. Octavo. Orange pictorial endpapers. 228pps., with numerous illustrations by Maxfield Parrish -- the full-page plates of which each have captioned tissue-guards. No ads bound in at the end of the book. No dustjacket. There is modest rubbing to the tips, the spine-ends, and to the white ink of the front panel. Also, there is a small, vintage bookseller's label affixed to the rear pastedown. The binding is sound and square and the text is overall quite clean and bright with very little in the way of reading wear or fox-marks. No previous ownership markings. In short, a very nice copy of this early Grahame (the author being best known for the children's classic 'The Wind in the Willows,' published a decade later). Beautifully illustrated by Parrish.
