1 Price, Reynolds A Generous Man
New York Atheneum 1966 First Edition Hardcover
Very Good in a Near Fine dustjacket. Bound in full green cloth. Both the spine and the front panel are stamped in gilt. Octavo with red topstain. Olive-green endpapers. 275pps. Stated First Edition. The edges of the cloth are faintly faded and there is dustspotting to the page-edges. Otherwise clean, tight, square, and bright. No apparent reading wear and no previous ownership markings. The dustjacket, glossy in a new mylar sleeve, has a slightly faded spine-panel and touches of crinkling at the extremities; the original price (4.95) is intact. A nice, collector's-quality copy of the author's third book.

"...A comic novel of great brilliance, a deceptively profound study of the passing into manhood of Milo Mustian and a pastoral of beauty and variety in which the sights and sounds of rural North Carolina are evoked by a stylist of the greatest powers. In 'A Generous Man' Reynolds Price deals again with the Mustian family, at an earlier stage of its life and growth and with that member of the family whose short full moment this is -- Milo Mustian. The story is of three crucial days in Milo's fifteenth year -- days which are potentially disastrous but are ultimately riotous and rich, the best days of his life, the fullest in every sense."

".0ne of the most feisty, spellbinding and engaging heroines in modern fiction captures the essence of her own life in this contemporary American odyssey born of red-clay land and small-town people. We meet Kate at a crucial moment in middle age when she begins to yearn to see the son she abandoned when she was seventeen. But if she decides to seek him, will he understand her?
