Near Fine in a Very Good+ dust jacket. Brown cloth over blue boards. The spine is stamped in blue. Octavo. Decorative endpapers. 166pps. First edition, first printing. There are slight touches of dustspotting atop the closed edge of the textblock. Also, the original owner's tasteful bookplate with a Native American motif has been signed and affixed to the ffep. Otherwise clean, tight, square, and bright. All tips are sharp. No apparent reading wear. The dust jacket, glossy in a mylar sleeve, is slightly dulled and rubbed and has a small, 1/2" closed tear atop the front panel. The original price (5.95) is intact. A very nice, collector's-quality copy of the author's second mystery featuring Leaphorn and Chee.
"...Two Native-American boys have vanished into thin air, leaving a pool of blood behind them. Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn of the Navajo Tribal Police has no choice but to suspect the very worst, since the blood that stains the parched New Mexican ground once flowed through the veins of one of the missing, a young Zuņi. But his investigation into a terrible crime is being complicated by an important archaeological dig...and a steel hypodermic needle. And the unique laws and sacred religious rites of the Zuņi people are throwing impassable roadblocks in Leaphorn's already twisted path, enabling a craven murderer to elude justice or, worse still, to kill again..."
